What makes a phone vibrate?

I know theres a chip in there that makes it vibrate, but what specifically makes it just start vibrating?!

It's a small motor with an unbalanced weight on the rotating shaft. The same motors are used in those micro radio-controlled cars.

There's a motor inside the phone that start vibrating whenever it receive a signal.
