simple for dual boot of any two operating systems you are advised to use two seperate Hard drives for best performance. however you can use a single hard drive and partition it to two drives then install one operating system on one partition and the other on the second. likewise one O/s on one hard drive and the second o/s on the other drive. simple as that.

When you install vista you are given the choice of of keeping the 'old' operating system. You will be then given a boot menu when starting the pc with the following.
Boot from:
1.old operating system
2.windows vista

I tried it and it worked perfectly with xp home.
I then uninstalled vista and it went back to my original state....... files and setting all intact.

You may need a spare drive or partition...as I have....not sure.

XP isn't. My workstation....after lots of paintings...boots Ubuntu, Vista abode top rate and XP professional. I infrequently use Vista although.
