(4 +square root 5) * ( 3 + square root 5) is not 4x3+5 which is 17.
It is 12 +7.5^1/2+5 which is 17+7.5^1/2.

a) (4 + \/5)(3 + \/5) =
4x3 + (\/5)² + 4\/5 + 3\/5 =
12 + 5 + 7\/5 =
17 + 7\/5

b) (3 - \/5)(3 + \/5) =
Solving:
3x3 -3\/5+ 3\/5 - (\/5)² =
3² - (\/5)² = 9 - 5 =
4

I'm afraid not! Back to the drawing board. Maybe you should read the manual on how to use your calculator - that might help.
