You can factor out 4p.
You can take out 4 because all the numbers are divisible by 4.
You can take out p because p appears in all the terms.

4px+8py-16pw <-- all of the coefficients are divisble by '4' (a common factor)
4(px+2py-4pw) <-- each of the terms have a 'p' as a "common factor"
4p(x+2y-4w) <-- now, the three terms inside the paranthesis have nothing in common between ALL three terms.

The number outside the paranthesis would be the common factor, so the common factor is 4p.

But if you need the entire expression with non-factored terms also, it'd be:
4p(x+2y-4w)

wrong ... sorry the answer is
4p
becuase 4 is the highest number you can take out of all of them and p is the only variable you can take out of all the factors "4px"
"8py" "16pw" x isnt in all 3 same as y or w
so 4p(x+2y-4w) is the complete answer but 4p is the common factor

No. The common factor is the factor which is an element of each term. In this case, this would be 4p, yielding final answer 4p(x+2y-4w)

4px+8py-16pw
does every term contain 4? yes.
4(px+2py-4pw)
does every term contain p? yes.
4p (x+2y-4w)

so the answer is 4p.
