Your son FOUND the money. You see no indication of to whom it might belong. No one has claimed a loss. You can do as you please with this money and have a guilt free conscience. Your son appears to have had a proper upbringing because he brought it to you for proper guidance. BRAVO to you and your son.

If it was a large amount of money you should turn it into the police and let them know where it was found and at what time of day and any other details that may help them. Then if someone did lose this such as an elderly person etc., and they report how much and where they could of lost it, they can get their money back, thanks to your honesty. If no one reports losing any money after a set amount of time. The police will tell you what that length of time would be. Then you can have it to keep. Just because you did not see who dropped it does not mean someone will not miss it. It could be their money for food or medicine and greatly missed.

If there is nothing valuable, just an empty wallet, I suggest you throw it away. Who knows where thats been or who it belongs to. If there are any traces of anything such as business cards or more important cards, go with your son to the point where found, and return to a professional building or post a sign.

You did nothing wrong. Anybody could say, oh thats mine. I worked in a hockey rink. Fans would drop change and bills. It was ours to keep. Anything with ID was turned in. Cell phones, wallets and I didn't care what was in them. I wouldn't want somebody to keep something like that on me. Later I lost a cell phone and a lady contacted me the same night. Boy I was relieved. What goes around comes around in a good way. It doesn't always have to be a negative way.

If you find money that cannot be returned to the owner because you have no wallet, no identification and no eye-witness to the dropping of the money, it's OK to keep it. Actually, I'd consider it a gift from providence and move along.

There's no way to be 100% sure whose money it was. Your son now has some extra spending money and whoever lost it has learned a valuable lesson about paying attention to their belongings.

I think it is ok to keep the money as long as it wasnt in a wallet because when the person relizes its missing they arent going to know where they dropped it. so i guess finders keepers

I am a Christian and the same thing happened to me afew weeks ago. You have no way of finding out who dropped it so it is not wrong for you or your son to keep it.
