The people that I know that have gained a lot of weight rapidly (although not as bad as your picture) has been due to medication related weight gain. The worse one gained 100 pounds in just under 6 months. When she went off the meds most of the weight fell off also.

Sad isnt it? Some people have Thyroid complications or Diabetes which dramatically affects their weight.
Some of these people who have that sort of problem, develope Depression, or Chronic Depression, and just really cant find the strength inside them selves to do any thing about it.
