So why not keep nursing him?
It's healthier and it's free.
If he is resistant then it's going to be difficult and stressful on both of you.
Him losing weight is obviously not good.
His resistance is a sign that you are going too fast for him.

You could try pumped milk in a sippy cup or a cup with a straw (like the "Rubbermaid Juice Box" bottle) and see if he does better with that than a bottle.

Feeding more solids isn't going to make up for the milk. He NEEDS breastmilk or formula. The solids shouldn't make up a huge part of his diet yet.

My son did well on the Avent brand bottles. He did resist, but it might help if you have someone else feed him. If you try, he will still smell your milk. If you are trying formula, try using different types. My son refused Enfamil but liked Similac. Some brands have a sweeter taste than others. You might also try taking one feeding away for a few days, then try taking two...continue this until there are no feedings. If he gets too upset at first, add one feeding back in for a few more days and try again. He is also old enough to be using a sippy cup. Avent makes a trainer cup. You might try just using a cup instead of a bottle altogether. You might have to try different brands until you find the one that works. It is very frustrating when you try to wean and the baby isn't ready. But you have to be persistent. Good luck.

I would like to add that it will not hurt your baby to wean him. Granted, most babies will nurse as long as you let them, and others wean themselves. But if you are frustrated with nursing it is probably wise that you wean. Nursing is wonderful as long as both parties enjoy it. If you do wean him, it is not a bad thing. Don't beat yourself up over it. Do what is right for yourself and your baby.

Great job making it 8 months breast feeding! Have you tried letting someone else (dad, grandma, a friend) give him the bottle/sippy cup? Some babies will not take a bottle from Mom 'cause they know she has the real thing! Let some one else give it a try while you are not in the room and see if things improve.

Your weaning too fast

You should replace 1 feeding with bottle or cup (at his age I suggest a cup) then wait 3-4 days before replacing another feeding. Night feedings should be the last to go.

I suggest a NUBY cup (<$2 at walmart) They have a soft silicone spout.

Solids at this age are still for experiment. Breastmilk should still make up almost all of babies nutritional intake.

Why are you weaning?

My baby is 8 months and merely have been given his first enamel and it hasn't even completely got here in yet. So do not hardship approximately that, my baby has been teething considering he exchange into approximately 3 or 4 months previous. even although, my son is crawling ok, he started crawling at early 7 months. Noww he's pulling himselff up on each thing. perhaps it is simply by fact he's a boy and that i exchange into lively for the time of being pregnant. each toddler is diverse so do not hardship, merely examine with the well being care provider to confirm she does not have a studying issue, for the crawling component to direction. i does not hardship relating to the tooth section simply by fact she would be able to get them finally.

if you want to do what is best then keep nursing - you can't do anything better then that. As for food 8 months is still in the experimental stage, he should still be getting all his nutrients from breastmilk.

has he started crawling? most babies slow down growth/thin out when they start moving.

Try a sippy cup. Or perhaps those wider bottles that are supposed to make the transition from breast to bottle easier.

STOP!!!!!! it may be very important that u dont stop breastfeeding him. his body probably isnt ready for changing from breast milk and phisicly he may not be ready to adapt to a bottle..... u have alot of time to make the transition! his body is telling both of u that he NEEDS this... u should take advantage of what going on and let it flow
