Depend entirely on the law in the jurisdiction you are in. They can detect alcohol through blood, breath or urine, and some states will let you pick which one you'd like to take. If they feel you are impaired by drugs, not alcohol, then they can request a blood test only. Blood is the most accurate of the three of course. But even with no testing at all, the results of the field sobriety test are enough for conviction.

It depends on the state. Most of the ones I've been in do the breathalyzer or sobriety test and if you fail give you the choice of urine or blood.
Most recently, cops in Tampa, Florida have been giving out DUI even when all tests are good, based on the reason they stopped you in the first place. Friends this happened to pleaded guilty to reckless driving or undo care and attention to avoid the judge. I guess it's their latest trick.
Good Luck!

First you would get a breathalyzer test, if this shows possible heavy drinking. Then comes either the blood or urine test. To see exactly how much alcohol is in your system

The guy that wrote to you was incorrect in stating that a field sobriety test was enough to get you convicted. The field sobriety test only gives them probable cause to seek a blood alcohol test, which ever one you choose. It will not get them a conviction by itself. Most jurisdictions however do state a refusal of either a field sobriety of BAC test is a crime equal to failing the test.
