now if the doctors say im 29 weeks going by the ultrasound does that mean they are also going by my LMP or the conception date?

What Im saying is, are the 2 weeks they usually add on because of your LMP aslo accounted for whan they determine how far along you are by the size of the baby?

Your due date is really only an estimate anyway but most doctors do use your LMP and your ultrasound combined as well as your measurements.

The stage of your pregnancy is calculated by the date of your LMP. I think when you do a U/S, it is programmed to use the LMP as the start date of the pregnancy. Remember u/s is based on averages so it will be in the ball park but not absolute. They can usually tell by the size of the baby as well but if you have an unusually large baby they may estimate the baby far more advanced than he is (we had a friend who didn't really know her date of conception and when the Dr checked the size of the baby, they decided to induce 2 weeks early, however, after delivery and the APGAR, they realized the baby was much younger probably taken out 6 weeks early b/c there were certain reflexes that were not apparent)

The ultrasound is your final determining factor. When they measure your stomach at each doctor visit, they are actually making sure the growth of the baby coincides with the ultrasound age. Since technically every woman ovulates differently they set the standard for ovulation at 14 days after completion of your menstrual cycle. It can be later or earlier. That is why so many women get pregnant, they think this ovulation thing is a hard a fast rule. Wrong.

The ultrasound is more accurate , I`ve always heard because they can measure the baby and everything...But it still can be off!!
