I know my mom and brother read to me when I was too young to remember but the first book I can honestly remember my mom reading to me is Anne of Green Gables. Every year for as long as I can remember my mom has given each of us kids a classic novel for Christmas. That was the classic I got when I 11 and my mom and I would read it together every other night, because she read the Secret Garden to my sister the nights we didn't read together. It's one of my favorite memories of my childhood.

I remember very clearly the day that I first read a book with sentences on my own, out loud to my mom.

It was called "lisa and lynn" and it was about twins. It went:

This is Lisa. This is Lynn. Lisa and Lynn are twins. (Lisa had blue, Lynn had red, etc.)

I learned to read when I was 3, so I think pretty soon after "Lisa and Lynn" I just got left alone to read to myself. I actually have no memories at all of a "long" book being read to me (aka Anne of Green Gables or Harry Potter.)

Kind of cute, though; my dad used to come in and pretend to read me made up stories; he would open his hands like a book and announce he was reading "the Book of Tuna" (that was my favorite) and then tell me a story he'd invented.

First book I remember that was actually pretty cool and I read on my own several times afterward was A Wrinkle in Time. Id recommend it even today.

I think it was River Parade, but I'm not sure. I know the first few books I grew up on, but not which was the very first.

It was "Fluffy the Porcipine." It's this really sweet story about being yourself. I still have it.
