I'm looking to ship two small lizards that are live. What is the best way to ship these animals to ensure their health and safety upon arrival in a timely matter? The lizards are actually geckos, about maybe 1-2 inches long each.

They can be safely shipped.
You will need to get some of the gladware containers from WalMart.(the throw away sandwich dishes) Usually they are about $2 for a 4 pack.
Place small holes around the sides of the dishes (you can use a soddering iron to make the holes, or drill them, or a pencil tip)
After the holes are done, place a piece of paper towel in the bottom and put the geckos in and place the lids on them. (tape the lids on, just to ensure the lid doesn't pop off in route)
You need a styrofoam insulated box. Get a box and some styrofoam. Line the bottom, the sides and have a piece for the top. (you will probably have to cut to fit)
After you have the box bottom and sides lined with the styro, place some newspaper in the box. Poke a few holes on each side of the box, through the styro. 1 on each side is fine. Place the gecko containers inside the box. Place some more newspaper on the top of them. Place an activated heat pack in the box(wrapped in newspaper). You can get heat packs at Walmart as well. They are in the sporting goods section and are sold as body warmers, or heaters. They are a pack that can go inside your socks or mittens. You need one that is at least a 24 hour pack.

Once all that is done, place the top piece of styrofoam on and then close and seal the box with packing tape.

You will need to ship them either FedEX or UPS. Ship them overnight to arrive by 10am at the receivers door. It should cost about $50.
(do not use DHL, they have alot of "lost" packages. In fact we had something shipped here that arrived 2 1/2 weeks after it was supposed to.. thankfully it wasn't an animal)

Hope that helps. Good Luck!

I'm not sure about the actual "shipping" part...but I do know

You need deli cups, small ones, some paper towels, some sort of insulation for the box, and whoever ships it needs to have "live animal" on it so it don't get kicked around, dropped or lost......

you could also look up snake breeders then email one and ask them how to do it.

it has to be overnight, and with it being cold you will have to have heat packs in there.

Make sure you or overnight ship em. And Make sure if you need to use insulation and heat packs. Winter is a bad time to ship reptiles for many of the states are cold and often are changing drastic tempuratures.

i've tried this before. i caught some geckos and anoles in hawaii, and i decided to just throw them all into a cardboard box, without any insulation, and just used regular USPS 2 day delivery. i mailed them in the winter, and even without any insulation, all the anoles survived. but the geckos all died. geckos don't seem to be as cold tolerant as anoles. all lizards can easily survive for 2-3 days without food or water, so using USPS priority mail should suffice. but again, i would try to use some sort of insulation to protect them from the cold.
