In terms of overall quality, flexibility, and choice of games, which is a better choice? I know that the PSP offers better graphics, and the ability to play homebrew hacks. I wouldn't be interested in the special movie discs for it, just to play games (even through emulation).

I feel the DS is a better choice.
The PSP has quite a hacker community behind it though. You can get all kinds of emulators for it [Gameboy, N64]. The graphics are of course superior, but the games are somewhat lacking. There are the awesome ones like Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Grand Theft Auto, but there are a few standout titles.
The DS on the otherhand has [in my mind] a larger amount of diverse games. And many good ones. [New Super Mario Bros, Phoenix Wright, Brain Age, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart]. Many gaming tastes are satisfied with a DS. But there aren't as many homebrew things going on with it, but some are pretty cool [like DOOM for DS].
In the end if you're looking for a honest to goodness portable Game machine, I would go with the DS. If you want to listen to music [don't already have an MP3 player then], watch some ok movies, and play a few standout games, then you can choose PSP.
And then if you care for the prices, the DS is a sure bet. Friend codes can be a hassle... but the DS is still a pretty solid game machine with lots of exciting titles on the horizon.

When the PSP first came out I was so excited to get it because the graphics were so good. After awhile I got tired of them and went back to the nintendo ds.
Get a nintendo ds lite. They are sexier than the psp and it has a huge library of great 3rd and 1st party games to keep you busy. Plus the games and the console is cheaper.

I own both a PSP and a DS.
While the psp is more supierior than the ds, you are looking only to play games. The DS feateres much superior gameplay than the PSP due to the innovative second touch screen. It is also cheeper.

Hey man i would say the psp cuz i have BOTH but i never play my nintendo ds so try to get the psp cuz u can use the internet, play music,wath movies or vidios,play games and look at pictures

PSP looks better. Nintendo DS has better games. PSP can have a lot of storage space on it though. Putting on your own music, pictures, movies and such.

If you like racing and mario, then I would choose a DS. If you like other things than choose the PSP.

i'd say DS because it's like the wii it revolutionizes gameplay
