I moved from london to liverpool four months ago to study at university and there is a significant difference in the way people treat you and the way in which they generally go about doing things. People in london(which is where i am from so i dont want to over-generalise) are usually quite wrapped up in their own day to day lives and have no time for one another, whereas up north there isnt such a rush and life is more laid back. People stop and chat to you and ask you how you are and what you are doing, which is nice and makes living there a breath of fresh air. I think people down south like to think they have 'busy and hectic' lifestyles, which just makes them seem self obsessed and wrapped up in themselves.

I have been hearing this old chestnut all my life and it has never been true in my experience. In fact...all the most violent and unpleasant treatment I have received has all been in the North of England...particularly the North East and specifically Newcastle.

In the South I find most people to be well mannered and educated enough not to impose themselves on me.

I don't know where this idea came from but I suspect that it was jealous northerners trying to find something ....no matter how spurious....that might make them look better.

I am from the south, but Wales that is!
Do you mean England? or the UK as a whole?
I lived the south of England once and found them, not unfriendly but reserved!
We Welsh are very friendly, in the south anyway!

I agree with frasier. I've now lived equal portions of my life down south and now up north... alot of people (most from experience) up north still have out-dated opinions of people (you know what i mean) and i find them alot more confrontational, even just for petty reasons.

Lets just say down south, i lnteracted with people alot more comfortably than i do up here.

...of England I presume?

That old cliché...I think you'll find the Northerners can be just as rude as anyone else.

Cheers.
