Why not ask a friend for a 'crossover' network cable and use this to network the two PC's together. The IP addresses should generate themselves, but if you've never used any networking before you might have trouble.

Probably a better idea is to ask a friendly techie to do it for you if you're unsure..... :)

the best way to put files into a new computer is to burn them onto a cd and load it into your new system this will also bypass the need for upgrading your system with unnecessary programs. unless the cables are for a network then they will not real be of ant help, and pulling your hard drive could cause more problems like totally wipping your system especially if your not sure of what you are doing

Turn on your file and printer sharing and share out the folders that have the files you want to transfer. Both computers need to have the same network name, but by default the network name is workgroup, so it network setting haven't changed you should be able to connect and get the files you need.

Why not just build a local network and share the disk drive to each other. You, then, just drag and drop between two computers.

Simply connect two computers with one hub. That's all you need with hardware.

connect them together. then set up a shared folder on one of the computers where you can put the files. in the address bar type \\ then the name of the other computer. this should show you the shared folder. make sure permissions are set to everyone. oh and the computer browser service might need to be started.

Why not pull out the hard drive and put it into your new machine and pull the data off of it that way.
