I applied for a permit for an addition to an existing garage with an existing slab attatched to the back(addition was to be the same size as existing slab). I was issued the permit but was not able to start construction within limits of permit. I had some free time and decided to try again and was told okay so I went and purchsed materials and special ordered trusses and after picking up all was told I could not do the addition. I want to return all materials and charge village for restocking charge, plus my time and mileage, plus the cost of the permit. Wisconsin, Waushara County, Village

Did you get a new permit when "they" said ok? Short of having a new permit issued, or the village government having voted to allow you to contiue to use the "old, expired" permit you have no recourse against the city.

Who told you it was ok? Even if it was a city employee, there's not much that can be done. A city employee can't change the law. You should have known that you needed either 1)a new permit (with just because they approved one once, doesn't mean they'd have to do it a second time) or 2)a vote of the village goverment to allow you to do work without one.

Bottom line your old permit expired, YOU didn't get a new one as required. You are responsible for the costs, since you didn't get a new permit as required by law. How is that anyones fault other then yours?

No refund, sorry. The decision was yours, whether voluntary or involuntary, not the fault of the Village or the permit office. That's why time limits are assigned.

Nope! There's nothing you can do. It was revoked in a lawful manner. You're just stuck with it.
