i've used varnish, not as a coat, but poured into a mold, and put things into the varnish while it was still wet. and when it dried, it was a clear block with my obejcts trapped in it. that's cool.

ou. use scrap metal!!! scrap metal to create a rainforest setting...interesting
tips on making creative art (from an art student)
Go wild! Don't let anything hold you back. Think outside the box (i know this is cliche but true). Don't just try and re create something...ex. a flower, a house, an animal, a city scape... actually come up with a message, an idea, a story and portray this in your artwork. When artwork has meaning (and isn't just a flower) it becomes powerful. As an artist you want to share your ideas with the world. So do it!! Create powerful work, not just a re creation.
Is there anything that is REALLY important in your life?
Any issues that really get you going? ex. race issues, gender issues, sexuality issues, ancestry (where did you come from?), where you live... signs and symbols is a good subject- give message in your work, what is an image that can really say something to the viewer? or an actual story. make a series of paintings that tells a story.
Let yourself be your artwork. Create something that comes from your heart!! Something that is important to you. Your work will be far more successful if you concentrate on the idea...an idea that means something to you.
i find myself digging through garbages a lot... collecting scrap metal, wood, old chairs, fabric... anything really. You can make something creative out of pretty much anything. Think outside the typical art materials (paint, clay, pencil...). it's cool to find something that no one would think of as art, and make it into something that is recognized as art. It creates interesting work when you can see history in the piece.
