Definitely, yes. If you don't have a major film production budget, you still have access to some very "professional" editting features with Final Cut (it's almost industry standard--used in these big budget movies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_feature_films_edited_with_Final_Cut_Pro). It's used by a lot of independent film makers I know and it's generally taught in most video and film programs in art schools across the country because it is accessible for most aspiring film makers and it's very powerful . It's a great program in that you can learn the basics *fairly* easily but really get into a lot of its features if you really invest the time. I can say with a fair amount of confidence that once you get familiar with a lot of its capabilities, you can do most of the crazy EDITING involved in the flashiest of videos. I emphasize editing because a lot of how your video will turn out also greatly depends on how you shoot, how your camera captures images, how well you use your equipment, how you transfer etc., etc., etc.

I'm not too familiar with animation on Final Cut but I do know it does have a frame-by-frame editing feature that's used for animation. Flash is one that gets used a lot for animation as well.
