i inserted a new black cartridge in my printer. when set, it is not printing when given the print command. some dots appear on paper. that's all. what to do? it is a lexmark printer.

Did you buy a cheap third-party cartridge? That's a BIG no-no unless you like wasting your money. If you did, get one from the original printer manufacturer. Or maybe you got the wrong cartridge type for your printer? Anyways, to solve all these questions, just get a cartridge from the manufacturer that is COMPATIBLE. Don't just get any ink cartridge, cuz it's just going to ruin your printer.

I suppose those dots are the dots always prints when a new cartridge is put. You have to take that dotted printed paper and scan it; the printer help menu should tell you about the new cartridge setting help

Take the new cartridge out and replace with the
old one. Does it still try to print with the empty one? If yes check the new cartridge and make sure took the tape of of the print head.
Reinstall it and try again. If it does not work you
may have gotten a bad printer cartridge... It happen sometimes..

Did you try to calibrate it? I would update the drivers and see if that helps as well.
