I try to answer this sort of question. I feel I have some special insight into this and might help someone. Being that the web is essentially anonymous I feel free to discuss the real me. To that end I offer the following:

Absolutely not nearly all, most people with suicidal tendencies just hurt. It may be physical pain, emotional pain, psychological pain, it may be real or imagined but regardless, it hurts. After years of fighting this pain with medication or will power or anything else, they simply give up. At that point death seems a very plausible means of ending the pain.

I know, I have been there. At this moment I am fine but tomorrow I might be suicidal. I have done all the therapy, all the meds, and all the other stuff. All it did was make things worse because all I was doing was smiling and lying to people around me. It was better for them but I felt like a door mat. So I stopped. I did learn the reason for my depression, I just can't seem to do anything about it.

I certainly think that not all suicidal people are crazy. I mean, many people kill themselves after a tragic lost, and it's too hard to carry the pain--which is a normal emtion right? Pain? Some people just can't to it. Also, some kill themselves before others can to either 1. more "dignity" 2. less pain or scary whatever. There are tons of scenarios like that, and just other examples that would break your heart, feeling for this person and even possibly understanding why they did it...(dont get me wrong, suicide is never the answer, but some of those peoples' stories would shock you enough to know that it's not a matter of sanity).

Also, think about it this way. Japan has the highest suicidial ratings in the world. This is a very important and advanced country, inventors of major new technology, etc. Brilliant minds. The main reasoning behind the deaths is just not being able to handle the stress...(sadly enough).

Hope this helped. :)

Suffering from suicidal thoughts. Thoughts of dying can be an offshoot of some forms of medicine. The side affects is one cause of the thoughts.
One takes pills for an illness not related to any mental problems per say, but physical side affects of medicine. As to why, well abuse> sexual or physical or someone feels a sense of loss somehow. Also, a chemical in the brain causes things to go awry in some. It isn't about sanity. It is about the inner workings of the brain and the brain is as you know still largely undiscovered territory. Suicidal thoughts are scary for those who have none, and it should be the people who educate themself better to not be threatened by these tendancies in others who largely suffer in silence. Cries for help is maybe over simplifying it, but a little bit of a reason. Look at the world and the pressures and how some have and others have not. This is a deep issue. Layers like an onion. You can't lump everyone into one deep well and say it is the same for everyone. We are like snowflakes, different lives and experiences. How we lived or were treated have a lot to do with how we relate to crisis.

I think most people commit suicide because of severe depression, which is a mental problem, but a mental problem does not mean crazy, of course. There are some people that have unimaginable physical pain, too, which a person sees the only way out is by suicide. Most can not comprehend the pain they are having. I think that most people that are drug dependent commit suicide because they may not can find or afford drugs to ease their withdrawal syndrome, so they see the only other alternative to end it is suicide. I know that withdrawal symptoms is one of the worst sicknesses there is.

No not all suicidal people have psychiatric problems, yes quite a few do. Those that appear to be perfectly sane have a variety of reasons for taking their lives; from fatal diseases to just thinking life sucks and the easiest way out is suicide.

I think it is important to first define "crazy" - Afflicted with or exhibiting irrationality and mental unsoundness - seems to me if we follow this definition and look at the decay of society and the world - we could all be dubbed crazy at some point in our lives No I do not think suicidal people are crazy - maybe more sane than the rest of humanity because they see the injustice of the world they live in. The word I would use to describe suicidal people is feeling hopeless, and no I am not suicidal.

No, unfortunately suicidal people often see and feel the insanity of others. The world is a very sad and tragic place for many. Some are more sensitive than others. Some feel deeply the thoughtless wounds of others, some feel deeply the suffering of others. People, about a million hacked up with machetes in Rwanda, children burned, molested, beaten, girls raped and murdered by men, women beaten by their husbands, children beaten by their parents, societies wiped out by conquerors,...

Honestly I think it is the REAL crazy people that survive. Humanity is supposed to be above nature, but look at the people who are thriving, they have a dog eat dog mentality, ...

It is possible to commit suicide and be sane. For example, the young Marine that dived on a grenade to save his friends. He won the Medal of Honor. Another example may be a person with a terminal illness that is in great pain.

Suicidal people typically have some psychiatric problem, like depression. They probably have a distorted view of reality, which would explain why they see no other way out. But they aren't necessarily insane.
Those of us who are "normal" or "sane" by comparison are less inclined to take our own lives.
That's my take on it.

I think anyone thinking of taking their own life is depressed. Now what is the definition of crazy? If a person is mentally ill they aren't crazy...I don't see it as that. Some mental illnesses are manifested in ways that seem crazy to other people such as schizophrenia....people talk to objects, have hallucinations and aren't normal in their actions by anyone's standards. They aren't always suicidal but they can be. Depression is more likely to be manifested in suicide and that is caused by a lot of things. Clinical depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain but situational depression can be caused by things such as divorce or the loss of a loved one and people can be suicidal during these times as well. I hope I didn't confuse you more.
