The Kurds are the dominant population in a region extending from southeast Turkey, northern Iraq and northwestern Iran. They have been viciously repressed, persecuted and mass-murdered for many years.

This is a real injustice. Since the Kurds occupy the entire northern third of Iraq, why doesn't the world allow them to secede and create an independent country for themselves?

Remember: ALL of the borders in the middle east were drawn arbitrarily by the colonial powers in the early to mid 1900's (mostly by the English), so why shouldn't we be more flexible about changing them now, especially when the original ones weren't drawn fairly to begin with? Another example: in the 1920's, the British took 75% of Palestine away from the Jews, and gave it to a small tribe of Hashemites from the Arabian Peninsula. That's just not fair. Why did the British think they had the right to do that? Why can't we correct these injustices today?

Thats the plight of minorities who havent carved out a small state. The Basque, Native Americans (over all North and South America - except maybe Canada and Brazil), the Jews (up to 1967), the Palestinians (before Israel they were put down by Egypt and Jordan), etc. etc. share your plight. The folks of Luxembourg do not.

To be honest, my thought is that the only way to deal with Iraq is to put the mineral rights into a trust, the profits of which would be divided amongst three regions of Iraq by population (or some other fair method) and let the three regions govern their areas independantly.

I think the Iraqis are a long way from accepting that obviously brilliant idea, however.

The injustice in Kurdistan-well there is lots of development going on there...this is from Kurdistancorporation.com (Travel & tourism)..which is the website of the Kurdistan Development Corp.

"There are huge opportunities for developing tourism in the region, including ski resorts. "

Tourist resorts include Bexal Waterfall, Salahaddin Resort and Sarchinar.

Iraqi-Kurdistan is striving towards building an infrastructure to attract tourists, particularly Arab Iraqis from the south, who prefer to spend their summers in the milder Kurdistan climate. Current projects include a $20 million luxury hotel under construction at the waterfall resort of Bekhal.

b/c it is not in the nature of governments to give up control and power. turkey and iraq have control and power over kurdish regions, they will not give it up.

also remember what happened the last time 'the world' got together to give a homeland to people that had been mass-murdered, oppressed and persecuted for many years. All we need in the middle east is another israeli-palestinian conflict.
