Is it always just the wrist or can it be like on the stomach or legs? I don't cut and I'm not going to, but I was just wondering, because my friend has cut in the past and we are worried he might be doing it again, just somewhere we can't see.

well, i have cut on both my upper arms and on my legs...but any place you choose is game.
with your friend, you might consider instead of like examining them, ask, and even if they deny it, you could recommend some counseling or therapy...or http://selfharm.org
the main risks for self harm are overbleeding and infection, so other than major slicing, its much more distasteful than it is dangerous. th REASONS they are cutting are what might be much more important. ther are lots of self harm websites out there, and i recommend them. encourage this person to talk about whatever reasons they feel they have that they need to cut.

It can be anywhere and it's generally NOT the wrists because they want to be able to hide it. Unless they are trying to get attention from someone anyhow. Some people cut because they feel it relieves them from some sort of tension/problems/guilt etc. At least I learned that in my psych classes. Also they can cut their upper arms legs...any place they can see/watch themself do it.

Wrists, arms, and thighs are the most popular places. Cutting releases endorphins, which releives emotional pain for a short period of time

most of the time they are just doing it for attention and it will be in plain sight on their wrists or arms. some people will try to hide it though and do it on their stomach or back or some place covered.

arms and legs are the most common because they're the easiest places to see and reach. however, some people cut on their stomachs or chest. some girls cut their breasts.

on their arms, not only their wrists, and on their thighs too.
Basically places where the person can easily just look down, and see theircuts and the bleeding.
(so not on their back or anywhere, where it's hard for them to see).
when they see the bleeding, the physical pain causes the person to (momentarily) forget about the emotional pain that they are experiencing.

Please do not commence. in case you want to be a good pal, you want to inform your pal to quit. and they frequently cut back on their wrists, hands, and/or legs.
