I won one of the prizes an ipod nano that I had to sign for was bought
at $130.00 however it was deducted from my pay check at $160.00
I thought I
had won something? Is this legal?

You will have to pay taxes on it, but you should see about getting reimbursed from your accounts department.

It depends on what they told you before you entered the "raffle." If they actually used the word, "raffle," and never notified you the prize would be deducted from your pay, then yes, I believe it is illegal. I would approach your boss or the person who was in charge of the contest and ask them why you were penalized $169, while the value of the prize was listed at $130. It could just be an oversight, but you really have to wonder if it's worth causing trouble over, too.

I do not believe so,even if it is ,it is unethical.Maybe you are paying tax on 160.00.Make sure that the 160.00 was deducted for the gift signed for ,and if that is so ,go to H.R. and complain.Tell them that you thought it was a free gift and if it has to be paid for out of your check,you would like to return the Prize as is and have the money retro-ed back into your following pay check.
