You don't have to lay on your back - it will be extremely painful if you do and you will have more trouble pushing and be more likely to tear. Just be however is most comfortable for you, whether it be kneeling, all fours, squatting, standing, laying on your side, whatever. Catch the baby as he comes out and wrap him in a blanket. To cut the cord, sterilize two lengths of string and a pair of scissors. Tie off the cord an inch away from baby and an inch after that. Cut between. If baby is breathing fine, no need to go to the hospital. It's a waste of money at that point if baby is obviously breathing well and healthy. Nurse soon after delivery to help your uterus contract and cut down on bleeding. Birth is not an emergency - don't stress too much, even if baby comes before your midwife arrives, there's a 99% chance he'll be just fine.

Get yourself a copy of "The Mother of All Pregnancy Books", by Ann Douglas

It has everything you need to know about delivering the baby yourself, with step-by-step procedures.
Located on pgs. 517-520

lay on your back and put your knees up. make sure there is a blanket under you and the person helping should NOOOOTTTTT pull on the baby but let the baby come out by him/ herself. wrap the baby up so it doesn't get cold cut the ambilical cord with a CLEAN STERILE object. And rush to a hospital to have the baby checked.

You don't, It will come out all by itself. All you do is hold it as it comes out, put a very clean wrap around the child and place it on the mother chest. 1st call 911 hopefully they get their 1st before the child is born. Do not cut the cord, wait til the right people get their to handle that.

Get into whatever position seems most comfortable and do what feels right. Believe it or not, women have an instinctive knowledge of how to give birth, our culture just tries to convince us that doctors are the only people who can do it right when actually, they do it completely wrong.

DO NOT CUT THE CORD
Baby will not suffer any harm if you don't cut it, but he could get an infection if you do cut it.

May I suggest You read dr Robert Bradley's book-I thinkyou would enjoy it.
