My daughter fights me and cries when I try to give her a bottle of formula, even though I know she is hungry. I tried orajel on her gums thinking that she was having pain while drinking her bottle. That didn't help. I give her mylicon drops thinking it could be gas pains making her feel full. Still, this had no effect. Also, she has acid reflux and is being treated with medication. That sould take care of that. Since she refuses her bottle, I give her rice cereal(fed with a spoon). She loves it. It seems that she only wants to eat solid foods. I know that her formula is supposed to be the main source of nutrition right now, and that she needs to have fluids to prevent dehydration. Any ideas what could be the problem? What should I do?

Her pediatrician suggested starting her on rice cereal at 4 months. It helps with her acid reflux. It's not as easy to spit up because it was more weight to it than formula. We just came from the doc yesterday and she had no signs of ear infection either. I'm frustrated and don't know what to do....help!

Babies R' Us sells a "bottle" for solid food. It looks just like a typical baby bottle but you can put baby food in it and the child can suck the solid food out of the tip. If you use this to feed her, it might work if you switch the food and the bottle up a little. I'm not sure what the problem is but that might be a suggestion. The bottles are made by Sassy and they're by the food teethers.

Mix her cereal with the formula. Try giving her the bottle after eating, making sure not to fill her up with cereal.

As for teething, the bottle is supposed to keep because it puts counterpressure on the gums. Try using a fast flow nipple.

You need to then cut back on her solids until 1 year 80% of nutrition needs to come from formula, not solids. Call her doctor most dont even want them on solids until 6 to 7 months!

She may not like the bottle, my son wouldn't drink from a bottle after he was about 5 months old, he only wanted a sippy cup, you can still mix their formula, just mix it in a different cup to get all of the clumps out. you can also try adding a little bit of juice to the bottle, or sippy, sometimes they decide they don't like the taste of the formula.

You should talk to her doctor. Sometimes when we aren't getting what we need from our food we have cravings. Maybe she is craving something because she isn't getting a nutrient she needs?

My son was breastfed and wanted nothing to do with solid food until he was 1. He was getting all the nutrition he needed from the breastmilk. He never spit up and never had any digestive problems that my friends babies had. He was also never sick until he was 2, which is when he was weaned.

Good luck, I hope she is ok!

i think of that's too plenty. I additionally started feeding my son at precisely 4 months & i've got been feeding him for a pair of week & a million/2 now & he oftentimes purely eats like a million-2 tbsp an afternoon! i think of 5 jars of toddler nutrition an afternoon is far too plenty for a toddler that's not even 5 months previous!! i could initiate giving him a million/2 a jar along with his cereal interior the morning. for lunch provide him a million/2 a jar of vegetables & a million/2 fruit & then dinner a similar. I relatively does not provide better than 3 jars an afternoon!!! oh & no remember what his abdomen won't "blow up" yet I do think of your over-feeding.

oh boy! why is she eating anything other than formula at 4 1/2 months?
did your doctor to tell you to introduce her to the cereal and solids?
your baby must have one strong tummy!

if you introduced the cereal/jar food to her yourself without doctors approval, you really need to let him know.
babies with the acid reflux usually dont get started on anything other than formula until the reflux clears up.

talk to your doctor & if you need to--get a second opinion from a new doctor.

Maybe try giving her the bottle an hour after she has eaten? How about mixing her cereal with formula insead of water?

My oldest did this too. He went through a phase and I had to start whole milk, vitamin drops, and nutrition drinks along whith his solids foods. It lasted about two months for me, but I think you should try that and slowly start her formula back up when you think she is ready.

If this is a new behavior, you might want to have her ears checked. Ear infections cause pain when sucking. Good luck.
