An often asked question which has no answer in this world apart from relativistic ones... for if one becomes truly "enlightened" in the sense you intend, then one will transcend and no more be a part of this material and relativistic plane... and would certainly never be able to convey to you or anyone the nature of that state...

I dunno. People who have reached so-called "enlightenment" have tried to describe what their world was like but it can only be known and lived. If anything, I understand it to be an undercurrent of bliss. Not an emotion that has an opposite......anger, fear, lust, happiness, etc. comes and goes but it's not held onto, and also, they float in an undercurrent of bliss.....mental and emotional states aren't identified with as being the whole person.....there is something more.....space.....

Enlightenment isn't a state.

States come and go, regardless of how sublime or mind-blowing they are, what is impermanent cannot be it. The best teaching I've seen is taking the neti neti approach. Not this, not this, whatever can be perceived is not it.

Enlightenment cannot be reached. It is something that is already the case, but due to lifetimes of wrong identification--identification with objects instead of the staying centered in the awareness of objects, we think that there is someone to reach enlightenment. It's like the sky identifying with all the passing clouds and trying to push away or change or not identify with them....the sky doesn't need to do anything....clouds come and go and the sky remains untouched....

Ego is real in a certain sense but it loses it's hold and is seen as not having so much solidity.

from my understanding and tiny insights, we are the sky, awareness.....not an object in space, but the space in which all phenomena float......just a 180 degree turn is needed...........

How does one fall asleep? No matter how hard you try, you can't make yourself fall asleep. In fact, the more you try, the less you sleep. So now how does one fall "awake" - that is, reach enlightenment? There is nothing you can do and the more you TRY the farther you get. The idea that enlightenment is something to reach, is simply false - you nature is already enlightened!

Life is a series of enlightenment's. If it is not, you are dead. Sometimes you feel it is so important that you must save the world with it, then you get depressed. If you are lucky, you get realistic. If you become happy in your finitude in the face of the one infinite, then perhaps you are enlightened enough to help others to the same contentment.

Not control, surf, you surf it.

its like going into a big white light .and you body tingles all over ,you feel as if you are floating ,and there is a buzzing in your ears
and all the sense of having a body disappears
you can reach a similar condition by taking Amanita Pantyharina (the mushroom of death)
its like a death experience ,and you become aware of other dimensions
in fact there are 11 dimensions
and there is an enormous feeling of awareness like a door into truth ,when you realise that we have been lied to for ever ,and that Gaia ,is the real God that concerns us ,as is the Sun ,and that Jehova was nothing more than an invasive extraterestrial, who utilized humanity for his own dark motives ,then you are truly enlightend

No, buddha never reached enlightenment, he refused to enter the gates of nirvana as long as there people who aren't enlightened. But tell me, what makes you think there is something called enlightenment, surely just because a word can pass through centuries of people constantly seeking for this "happiness," this "enlightenment." And who achieved it? And why do you still give momentum to such empty words.

i'm definitely hoping to find out;-) from among those people i've been in contact with who i would view as (at least relatively) enlightened, as compared to the mass of the species, i noted the following. they are always calm and kind, no matter the circumstances. they always radiate a high frequency that will "entrain" your being, so that their qualities of being will, to some degree, become yours for a time, including the complete balance and calming of your being, and the alteration of your consciousness to a much more quiet and expanded version. the overall experience is one of healing and remarkable upliftment. returning to "ordinary" life thereafter is quite unpleasant. but, that of course, spurs you on to engaging in those practices which will facilitate your own growth. review material on esoteric buddhism, taoism, shinto and hinduism for some thoughts along the path. and see http://www.sahajayoga.com for some experience of the "state". ;-)

I feel thoroughly enlightened!!! That's how it feels. No balance just a deeper and more spiritual understanding of my surroundings and how I affect them. Control is a vice that binds us to our bodies, one must release control in a way that brings themselves more in tune with their true existence.
