People that committ a crime that hurts others, should suffer the same in return. If someone killed someone in a brutal manner, they should be killed in the same manner and for twice as long. Same with raping someone. Let them get raped by an instrument and see what it's like.

People are right to be enraged about this. It is not surprising that they want to see the killer dead.
I hope that the family members will be spared the pain of a death penalty process. If the death penalty is sought in this case, the trial will take much longer. Both sides file many pre trial motions which all have to be answered, there will be a great many witnesses and the trial will actually be two trials. (The first is to decide guilt or innocence, and the second to decide the penalty.)
If the sentence is life without parole (which I hope is available in your state,) that will pretty much be the end of the legal process. Life without parole is rarely appealed, means what it says and the killer will spend the rest of his life locked in a tiny cell for 23 of 24 hours a day and still have to face whatever comes next. If the sentence is death, this will only be the beginning of the legal ordeal. The family will have to revisit this horrible crime over and over, in court and in the media.
Justice does not have to be revenge. You should look at the statements of some victims family members who have said that although in theory they support the death penalty they prefer life without parole because of what the death penalty process does to families like theirs.

After having sat on Jury the term "covicted of murder " carries no weight with me. The person with money - meaning the person with the most money tends to win. Far to many people have been "convicted" of murder and later found not guilty in retrial. If the person is proven by DNA tests and valid eye witness, or admitts to the crime in many cases I say sure, issue the death penalty, no point in wasting tax dollars and rehab is a crock. However as pointed out above there are many reasons murder can occur, depending on the legal system you get locked into.

I am against the death penalty. I think it is cruel and unethical to kill people.
I would make these criminals work 6 days a week doing hard, backbreaking labor. Why should we be paying for them to sit around in a jail cell? If we did this, I think we could abolish the death penalty. They'd probably suffer so much that they'd beg for death. :P
But I understand why people would want to execute these awful people and they don't really deserve any better.

I agree. It's sad, I live in Ohio and they either just passed the law or are in the process of passing a law that defines the injection that quickly and painlessly euthanizes these low lives as "inhumane"..Huh? are you kidding me, like these punks cared about how unjust and inhumane there victim's death was? It makes me sick ... I am sorry about your recent tragedy, I'm not very religious but maybe one day they will meet there maker and have to pay for these atrocities then..

Because we are a society of patsies. We no longer have any discipline nor sacrifice. We do not want to make anyone uncomfortable. We also do not understand punishment. If there were a pill that cured sex offenders, liberals would be all over it. Our judicial system is all about rehabilitation not punishment.

Because they just don't think its fair for an eye for an eye. I for one like the Ron White Philosophy "If you kill someone we'll kill you back."
