The main issue is that light output isn't linear with voltage -- that is, a 10% voltage drop due to corrosion, undersize wires or long wire runs causes MORE than a 10% drop in light output.

Relaying your headlamps can help, especially on an older car. You can use good connectors, larger-gauge wire, and shorter wires by positioning everything close to the alternator's output or the battery. This will help make sure that your headlights are actually getting full voltage, which will make the lamps brighter.

The Sources field includes wiring diagrams for how to set this up. It also has GREAT information about what really works to get more (and more usable) light out of a car's headlights. That site also sells wiring kits (with relays, connectors, etc.) to do this to your car.

If your car has a standard 12 volt electical system (almost universal nowadays) you will need to use higher wattage lamps (bulbs). You may need to do this via a relay as there will be more current flowing through the circuit. I suggest first you make sure the lights are correctly aligned or you wont get much benefit, also check that it is legal to upgrade your lights for highway use - too bright headlights may be a shortcut to a ticket. By definition you will be seen coming!.

You can find brighter bulbs on eBay, but you can't make the bulb any brighter than it is. There was a good suggestion about having your lenses buffed and that will help, but it will only be as good as it was when the car left the factory - not any brighter.

You should just buy an after market to make it brighter, if it cost too much, replace the old light fixture w/ a new stock ones, it'll make it brighter. If you want it bright bright get fog lights

Brighter No, but you can take advantage of the brightness they already have. Use toothpaste for cleaning your lenses. Just dont rub it too hard.

if you make your head lights brighter they are just going to burn out sooner because more current is flowing through the elements than they are designed for. plus it is a fire hazard. your wiring could develop a short and that could cause a fire, or at the very leas be very expensive to fix.

If you have a newer car, have the headlight lenses buffed at your dealer. I know lots of people who HAD the same problem.
