And what was with the ending?! Hawkeye goes through almost a decade of war with a smile on his face and a bad pun permanently on the tip of his tongue, and it's only after he returns home that he starts to suffer the concequences! Post traumatic stress disorder my ***.

Mash is the beginning of the socialist television takeover. Alan alda is a terrible actor, and Hawkeye is a blueprint for what the socialist want the average American to be. Worst series ever doesn't even scratch the surface.

The final show was watched by 106 million people...
Friends got half that and remember how popular that was? It was more than the "Who shot JR?" in Dallas and more than any Superbowl.
Cheers got 80 million, Seinfeld got 76 million and theses were great shows, but it still wasn't as much as M*A*S*H. The overwhelming numbers the last show of M*A*S*H got tend to support the hypothesis that this was a great show.
It turned what could have been a drama (think military ER), into a comedy that reflected back on us all the absurdity of armed conflict in big bold letters. It was set in Korea, but most assumed it was Vietnam it touched such a raw nerve. It spoke volumes about all the good things than can come out such terrible events and crucially it gave hope that all the terrible things that could happen would eventually come to an end.
106 million people (77% of the entire nations audience) do not watch 2 1/2 hours (3 1/2 with adverts!) of something they don't like.
It was the highest viewing figures of any show...EVER...and still is.
If you don't like it, that's O.K, but I am with the 106 million on this one.

I love Mash! I find Radar absolutely adorable.. But Hawkeye is annoying and very abrasive. I can't fathom HOW he got any nurses... He's not even attractive or funny. How di Mash become the Hawkeye/Alan Alda show???
I had mixed feelings about Trapper and Henry leaving, but got over it quick... BJ was ok, but Potter was lilove-able. But I miss Frank. Winchester is a giant, boring douche

you people serious mash is one of the greatest shows in television history, the only show to completely change direction from a comedy to a drama. the actors all were great anyone who hates the show must really hate television. and the series finale was amazing one of the best finales ever, the final scene with BJ and Hawkeye is extremely beautiful and touching and BJ's note is so great, the show was a success and will remain in the world's heart for 40 years and will continue for eternity.screw the people who hate the show

Mash was way ahead of its time and was the most watched television show as being medical myself it was very true and accurate.
I agree it is each to his/her own and not everyone would have liked it but hey what floats your boat is not always what floats others
For someone who does not like it you know a lot about it so why watch it? There is a button on all televisions it says off or on!

No. South Park is the worst series ever made, though it is a tossup with Beavis and Butthead. We won't go into short-lived crap like "United States" (another Larry Gelbart creation). Yes, the characters on M*A*S*H could be annoying at times, and Alan Alda was often too high on his horse, but it was almost invariably funny. That doesn't mean you have to like it, however, and I respect your dislike.

On the contrary, M*A*S*H was great television. It stayed on TV many years and continues in syndication. It won many awards. The plots are dumb because they were showing how soldiers try to cope during war and how people get stuck in situations not of their choosing and how they handle them. They poked fun at themselves, government bureaucracy and war. It was supposed to be dramatic and realistic without being morbid. Consider the times during which the show ran. It may seem dumb and boring by 2007 standards, but it was a great show.

That was one of the top rated shows of all time -- and is still one of the most syndicated ever. I've seen every episode at least 20 times, and so have many other people, and why? Because the humor is not superficial, ridiculous and dated. It is timeless and I will never get tired of watching it. That's what makes a classic a classic.

M*A*S*H was awesome. Plots weren't dumb. It wasn't boring. Radar wasn't irritating.
Reading thru these answers is depressing....depressing that one of the best (and most loved) shows of all time apparrently doesn't 'do it' for this generation, and just how sad a lot of you really are. To date, the finale of the tv show M*A*S*H is still the most watched tv show of all time, and it was on 24 years ago.
