Actually, my students report the greatest satisfaction with the Barron's prep books for the GREs and for the TOEFL.

I agree that taking as many practice tests as possible and then focusing on the parts on which you had difficulty is a very good technique.

The best book I found for the GRE, believe it or not, was GRE for Dummies.

The best study technique involved finding as many practice tests as I could in books and online, taking them, and then studying only the subjects I didn't score well on rather than trying to study everything that might be covered.

One thing to know: The GRE quantitative section is heavy on geometry. Other math topics are covered, but it seemed particularly heavy on Geometry.

For the GRE, I used Kaplan's (not caplon) book. I think it was pretty helpful and I ended up doing pretty well in the quant and verbal sections (top 15% in both). I didn't do as well in the analytical writing section and I heard that Princeton Review's description and advice for the AW section is much better.

Don't use a book---Buy the GRE flash cards and use the computer program.
