given a question where there are 5 possible answers but you may only select one you have a choice, however if we suppose that you have made your choice then the rejected alternates are 4 distinclty different possibilities that could have individually have been picked, thus you have the choices you didnt make

You're confusing the definition with what is grammatically correct. Such as, "What choice do I have", or "What are my choices". See:) Geeze, English, right?

You may have only one choice and that's it. But then you may have multiple choices (or options). These words are interchangeable.
