My dad makes damn sure I know when I do something wrong, why I did it wrong, what can happen because I did it wrong, how much I could pay for doing it wrong, and to never do it again. Now, I drive well enough not to smash into another car. If I ask to drive somewhere alone and come back, he lets me do it (unless it involves the highway during the night, which is a combination I stay away from regardless). But when he is driving with me, he feels the need to point everything out. My friends said its the same thing for them, some of them actually have it worse.

So, how scared/stressed are you when your kids drive, and why?

I have had my license for forty years and my eighty five year old father still insists on telling me what to do when I am behind the wheel. I think that some parents are like that while others like me are the opposite. I was nervous the first couple of times that I drove with my children. Mind you my daughter drove the car into the garage with me sitting next to her in the car. The problem was she neglected to open the door first. I didn't even get upset after that. I think that criticizing a person's driving makes them more nervous and increases their chances of actually making some kind of mistake. I hope your dad starts of relax and leave the driving to you. Good luck.

It is the scariest thing I have ever been through. They are inexperienced. Young. Fear of the unknown, other crazy drivers and the finality of what can happen. It's just so awful when you read the statistics and know that it can happen to your children. It's the worst. So, it's normal to be freaked out and scared and anxious and paranoid and all the rest...you are the love of your dad's life and he wouldn't know what to do if anything happened to you. So, be patient and understanding and show him you understand and respect his fear and his love for you. That's what it boils down to, love, and the fear of losing that love. Good luck and I am praying for you.

I'm pretty worried being behind the wheel myself, because they give licenses to so many people who don't drive well. It's so much worse when my kid is driving. I do point out his mistakes and he gets frustrated with me and says "I know mom!". I'm always telling him to be aware of other drivers and be responsible because lives are in his hands.

I don't have any kids but I'd proably be a little bit scared and stressed out. I think my brother and sister in law are going to be when my niece and nephew start driving.
