The previous answer is ALL wrong.Bonnie Prince Charlie was 1745 allright but that was the battle at CULLODEN where the English soundly thrashed the Scots.The Battle of Bannockburn gave Scotland a taste of self-governance after the Scots under Robert The Bruce beat the invading English.Google Bannockburn or go to www.scotland.com for further info.

You certainly know that after Bonnie Prince Charlie lost that battle of 1745, there was no independence. There was even a fear that the "Honors of Scotland," meaning the crown, the sceptre, and the orb, were lost. In fact, Scotsmen were driven off their land by persons wanting to herd sheep. "Sheep are eating people."
