If the catyletic converter has failed or plugged up your vehicle will not have any power hardly, and if left anattended can warp your exhaust headers, and harm your engine due to the exhaust not properly escaping from the vehicle. Plus you will get terrible gas mileage.

When the converter goes bad and plugs up, your vehicle will slow down because the exhaust gas cannot get out. The engine will begin to overheat and finally it will stop. It is the same principal of stuffing a potato in the exhaust pipe, except you can't build enough pressure to unclog a catalytic converter.

convertors have carbon inside of them when they get old pieces break apart and can cause them to be resricted or stopped up which could damage the engine, causing it to over heat and blow a head gasget
