I see no problem with it at all. If you work, and your job doesnt offer insurance, what are you gonna do? Have a hell of a lot of doctor bills, that's what. As long as people are trying, and they qualify for it without lying about income, there is nothing wrong with it. I have medicaid for me, my son and my daughter. I have WIC for my daughter, but I chose not to get it for myself because I can afford the milk, cereal, cheese and juice that they offer on medicaid for pregnant women. And I also understand that some pregnant women can't work because of complications with pregnancy and they get medicaid and wic and I think it's just fine. It's nothing to be embarrased about, unless it's being abused.

I was on both up until the time my husband and I got married, it i wonderful. If you have limited income both can really help out, my daughter had colic when she was a newborn and we had to have a special kind of formula which was over $20.00 a can there is no way I could have been able to afford that on my own, unless you are very well off I don't know who could that is almost $300.00 a month. I definately don't think there is anything wrong with it .Some people aren't as fortunate as others. I also want you to know it's possible to get help with daycare, you can get assistance through DHS and you would just have a small copay each month.

Taxpayer funded programs like WIC are good to help babies during bad times. What people are upset about are mothers who abuse the system. More women are making decisions to have babies they know they can't afford. To make it worse, some like that girl Summer have baby after baby and are proud to have made the taxpayers pay for em.

On the other hand, I know a few girls who have money and live in big houses, but still got on WIC. They said its so easy to get on and free, might as well use it. Sad.

My kids have medicaid, and my current pregnancy is covered by medicaid. My husband works a full time job, but it doesn't offer benefits, so of course we accept the medicaid for our children. We have to tough it out though, because we don't qualify. Don't use wic right now because we don't need it at the moment, but we have in the past.

Just to clear up a few things, Medicare tax doesn't cover Medicaid benefits. So if you paid Medicare tax, that is for your medical care when you are over 65 years old or if you get kidney failure at a younger age.

To the person who said who cares what anyone else thinks, it's not like they're paying for it, that isn't entirely true. We do pay for Medicaid benefits for other people through our taxes. The more people who need Medicaid, the higher our taxes go to cover it and the more money has to be taken from other areas that the State pays for.

Having said that, pre-natal care and medical care for the newborn is very important. It's much better to have a healthy pregnancy and baby than to have to fix problems once they occur. I work with many Medicaid patients in my job, most of them chronically ill or injured patients, and I care about and love all of them. However, that money for Medicaid and WIC has to come from somewhere, and it comes from all regular citizens who pay State taxes.

I use both and I am not ashamed...and I am 35...I got laid off from my job and didn't know it at the time but was already almost 2 months along...I have worked since I was 15 and I have paid into the system long enough to get a little back when I need it desperately...that's what it's there for...I do take exception to "professional" welfarers though...but I guess that's a whole other topic...

I have used medicaid and wic for all three pregnancies and for my children. it is way too expensive to get insurance on your own especially when you are within the income limits they specify.

my daughter got the insurance which was a great help. she did not make enough money to get her own insurance and i think that any woman who needs it and can get it should otherwise think of it, how many would not go to the doctors for regular check ups, the vitamins they need, have birth at home. etc.. all of these would put that baby in jeopardy. basically, if you can get it, get it. and to hell with what anyone else would say. just ignore them as they are not worth your stressing about it.

I have both. My hubby works full time but i dont work and he doesnt make enough money to cover everything. It is nice to have the extra help and helps provide things you may not be able to sometimes. Like formula for the baby.
