on the right side of your shifter there should be a small cover about the size of a penny. Use something like a pair of tweezers or a small flat head screwdriver and pop out that cover. That should expose your shift lock over ride button. Just press that button as you are trying to put the car in gear, that should allow you to put the car in gear. I hope that this helps, Good luck. Adub.

Two likely causes of this.
1. The linkage in the shifter is broken or jammed.
2. The brake light sensor is broken.
Either way, you need to either repair it yourself, or have it taken to a mechanic. Until then, try turning just the battery on and placing the car in Neutral, then start the car from Neutral. Be sure when youve reach point B, to place the car back into Neutral and use the park brake.
PS. Replacing the brake light sensor is very easy and cheap to do by yourself.

Your car has a brake park shift interlock solenoid that prevents shifting from park unless you press down on the brake pedal and shift at the same time. Also if you parked on an incline and didn't set the parking brake then your vehicle's parking pawl is under a lot of pressure making it feel as though its stuck in park, its going to require a lot of force to get the vehicle out of park. Usually in this case another vehicle will be needed to pull you forward very slightly to take the pressure off the parking pawl so you can get your car out of park.

Most ford vehicles have a lock on the shifter. It will unlock by depressing the brake pedal, There is a sensor on the brake pedal arm that releases the lock on the shifter. If it doesnt work when the brake pedal is depressed, there is a problem with the brake pedal sensor or there could be loose or broken wires at the sensor. I had this problem before on my personal car.

This guy is clueless. it works or it do not. If it exchange into disconnected ( no ability) it won't energize and lock the shifter . the priority is the shifter would desire to get bumped or a handbag strap addicted to it and get pulled out of park as you're exiting the motor vehicle. that's very disadvantages if the motor vehicle is parked on a incline

Some are tied into the brake light switch underneath the dash. Are your stop lights coming on when you try to shift?

Is there an aftermarket shift knob? take it off and try it that way. I put one in my car and the son of a piece did that to me.
