It doesn't matter what your major is in your first year, most colleges don't require you to declare one until your second year.

My advice - take general knowledge courses in your freshman year and declare a major later.

You may want to think about taking some career assessments. I know it may sound silly but a few interest inventories may just give you a clearer path. Once you see a pattern of career areas come up, do a little exploration to decide on whether the actual field is something you would be into (i.e. salary, job outlook, etc). Some assessments include the Career Interest Inventory, Guide for Occupational Information, and the MBTI. Check through a search engine also. There are a bunch of online assessments now related to this.

Take lots of different subjects and you'll start to learn about what it is that your passion is. The more you experience new and different things, the easier it will be to eliminate those you're not good at and that you don't really care for, and zero in on those that you love. If, by the end of next year, you're still not at all sure what you might like to do, enlist the help of the school's career services.

Pick a major that suits your strengths. When in doubt, go undeclared for a while or try liberal arts. If you are undeclared, you can mess around until you find something you like. Liberal arts lets you experiment in English, Art, Sciences, Theater, Drama, Music...etc.

Congratulations on going back to college.

Speak with a career advisor at your school. It is, after all, their job to help you figure out your major and your career.

If you can't decide, you don't have to. You can pick whatever feels more suitable for you right now, and if you find yourself not liking it, you can change it.
P.S. Or you can go with liberal arts, like a lot of other people.

Ask youself: what am I good at? What do I enjoy doing (or what is my favorite class in school)?

if you are good with numbers, you could be a math teacher. If you are good at biology, go with pre-medicine.
