this is a suggestion for a laptop that is absolutely sufficient for school with dual core CPU, enough ram and plenty of disk space.
not even Dell has an equivalent offer for that price (btw, Dell sucks).

it all depends... dells can be had for a good price.. but price is not all your looking for... u would want at least a 3 ghz with 1 gig ram and 256 video... then its all up to you from there.. dvd burners sixe of hdd and size of display.
i have a gateway, 3ghz amd 64bit, 1 gig ram, 256 mb video dvd burner 100 gig hdd and 15.4 widescreen display. i like it how ever its a little on the heave side.. i carry it around all day at school... i got it at best buy for 1000$ then i got the extended warrenty on it... 3 yrs covers everything except if i throw it in a pool... that was 350 bucks but well worth it...
but you can dont have to get all the newest stuff out on the market i only got the 64 bit cause i needed a 64bit for a program i need to run for automation class..
but figure spending about 600$ for one.. if ya waited in line the day after thanksgiving ya coulda got one for 300$ but there where ppl waiting in line 48hrs b4 the store opend for that sale...
goodluck!

Talk with your school first to see if you can get an education discount through them. You also want to pay attention to the warranty and make sure you get a 3 year. This may drive the price up but it is worth it.
Lenovo offers Thinkpad protection which covers accidental damages to the screen and spills. It's extra though. A Thinkpad 2623-DAU is pretty decent.
But it all depends on what you want in the system.

HP is a good band for price as i am using one myself and have had no probs with it just depends on speed and memory with what you are after. also look at payment options within the store like flexi rent or similiar. will cost approximately AU$130 a week for a reasonable all round machine. hope this helps you

For the price, you can't beat Dell. You just have to wait until a good deal comes around. If you check the side www.slickdeals.net, you usually see a couple of good deals every month. Just check the front page on the site regularly.

Why not a Dell? Take a look at the link below...

First you have to determine what you want to do with it.
Play games, Applications....?
Consider connectivity... dialup modem, ether and wireless broadband.
Battery life..
All important when pondering a purchase.
Think about the above and check out some smokin links

hi paperplate!
depends on what u r using the laptop for. if you want to use it for fun stuff like photos, videos, internet... tough to beat apple's macbook... tons of great software out-of-the-box which you have to buy on a PC.
starting at $1099
