Its hard to go downhill when the network has been resting firmly on the bottom for quite a long time now. The biggest reason for this slump would be the two different conflicting philosophies of the network. MTV has always broad casted TV shows on an incredibly low budget and this strategy lead to some original and imaginative comedy series such as Beavis and Butt-head. Since, the budget was so low they didn't really have to worry much about "marketing" because it wouldn't take too much to break even.

Enter the early 2000s. Reality Shows are all the rage on TV sweeping up high ratings on low-budgets. It didn't take long for all the other networks to jump onto the bandwagon and your left with a ton of uninspired shows on TV. Since all the viewers are eating this crap up, MTV has no real reason to turn back to well-written television shows and unlike most networks who could fill the slot with something better (see Cold Case), on MTV, these low-budget reality shows are what is really bringing in the cash.

I though it was only on latin America, but for the other answers, in the US, you have the same anoying shows, it's sad but Mtv isn't even the shadow of what it used to be, in the 90's I can remember that Mtv was the definition of coolness, it had better videos, better music and it was more artistic, more underground... now the only thing I like its South Park and Drawn Toghether...

I stopped watching MTV a few years ago because I couldn't stand any of the shows they had on. I prefer VH1 Classics now.

I stopped watching MTV years and years ago. Their shows are horrible. All their shows are about a bunch of young people that think they are gods gift to the opposite sex, and in some cases, the same sex. Its all a bunch of crap.

yeah i think that mtv is kind of sucking, although they still have some really good ones, when your too bored to be studying and you need something mindless to watch

I'm watching it too, and I gotta say this show really sucks. Most of their new shows are pretty lame, but I have to admit I do watch My Super Sweet Sixteen. It's funny to watch those spoiled little brats.

Yep, I hate that Sweet 16 show. A bunch of bratty kids who need a smack of reality upside the head.

(I merely googled "Lazar on parental administration and found this information) Idk why MTV keeps to solid him the two. he's clearly desperate for interest. He could pass to appearing college and get it over with. lol.
