How do you survive in a business of unregulated liars?

Contractors Licence #,Get a Business License for $10. now your a Contractor. Bonds, Insurance, Time In Business, Lie Your brains out! . No Advertiser cares if they represent Criminal Impostors, as long as they get paid, Even the owners of large (Handyman Services), Dont know a nail from a screw, Just money to milk the suckers. I say The contractors License in my pocket Should be (required to be seen) By anyone advertising your (Contracting Business).

I agree whole heartedly, but the person doing the hiring of the contractor should be doing their homework too. Far too many people are just hiring contractors blindly. Just because someone has a contractors license doesn't mean that they are competent.

the salesmen just want the $ for the ad they sell.
the bottom line...that's their goal
they don't have the time (or interest)
to "check up" on business people.
--that the betterbusinessbureau's job (only if asked)


there ARE laws (as you know)
regulating contractors.
--consumers hope they don't have to use them
(to try to get their money back)

if you're losing customers to unscrupulous contractors,
you can
1) match their "deals"
2) make a name for yourself as the "guy who corrects the mistakes of the first contractor"..."we'll fix, what your contractor broke"
3) create a campaign that increases public awareness about the existence of unscrupulous contractors, and how to protect oneself, i.e. demand to see a license
4) attend local government meetings and try to get legislation passed that penalizes people for using unlicensed contractors
5) ....get legislation passed that increases the penalities for contractors who work w/out a license
