Darkseid, not because I like him, but because he is too experienced at being able to induce doubt and despair into his people. Look at that sick pup he hangs with, Desaad. Look at how he has cowed the entire population of Apokolips. He intuitively understands the first part of the Anti Life Equation, which states that life is not worth living and that nobody is allowed to say “I”, except through Darkseid! He would have no trouble crushing the soul of the Imperial Guardsman with despair and discouragement.

Darkseid and Superman go toe-to-toe now and again, and it is usually a stalemate or a narrow win by Kal-El. Gladiator is pretty much a Marvel universe copy of Superman, with a snazzy purple mohawk hairdo, but without all the boy scout philosophy, so he would go cutthroat a lot quicker than Supes would. So I would give the edge to Gladiator.
