I have a genuine copy of Windows XP and have had it since 2001. It was taken to Micro One in 2003 for work and they had to install a new hard drive and Windows XP, obviously (assuming they did so from the disc that we gave them to use). I am currently trying to reinstall a fresh Windows XP off the disc that came with out Alienware computer, but it keeps saying the product number is wrong...the problem is, at the time, Alienware WROTE by HAND the number of the Windows XP cd in the information pack that they sent to us, and they may have made a mistake...but, if this is the case, then how did Micro One install XP? Anyway, is there a place on the computer that will have the number stored?

Nearly all computers that come with genuine windows installed have a small sticker somewhere on the case with the Windows logo and the product number. Look at your numbers very carefully, and if some numbers are not clear, substitute another number that looks similar.

Usually ANY original product number of Window XP will do. You could ask someone who has the original package for their number and it will do. If all else fails, simply download Limewire and search for it there, it will do. BUT some people upload the wrong one, thus making you have to track down the correct one, but keep trying and one of them will eventually work..

Do a google search for jellybean key finder. It will tell you exactly what you need to know with nothing to install and only one click.

It will also allow you to change the key on an existing install.

Good Luck

There's a simple little free program called "Keyfinder" that's available to download at the below link. That will do it for you.
