Depends on the modem, but yes it can be done. In the past I have used both the ethernet and the USB at the same time, but it caused problems with my ISP over time. It is usually easier to buy a DSL/Cable router.

I would say that is highly unlikely and an easy way to prove that would be to try another computer with the ethernet connection - if that fails to connect as well then it is more likely to be the cable modem that is at fault. Chances are it is just a configuration problem. Depending on how confident you feel try pushing the reset button on the cable modem and then re-install the software.

Yes and No, depends on the Modem, and if it has an "either - or" switching. Some will allow both, some will switch from USB to Ethernet, depending on what is plugged in

by design they are both not supposed to work simultaneously.

I would use the Ethernet ports they are designed for data com networking, USB is not..

if both do work it will NOT increase your downstream rates, if that's what you are thinking...
