Most DVD RW drives can read both DVD-R,DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RW. I have found though that when burning items that you would want to play in a dvd player, that DVD-R was the most accepted disc, as some wouldn't recognize the DVD+R's.

Yep! The +R means that the disc can be recorded to and the +RW means that the disc can be written to more than once (holding data up to the maximum disc space).
So, as long as you have a DVD writer, it will write according to the type of disc you use, either once (+R) or multiple times (+RW).

yes dvd+r just means you can only burn once.
DVD+RW means if you don't want what is on the disc, you can wipe the disc and reuse

Did you format the the CD? Secondly.. your computer has a DVD opening.. does it have a CD opening.. you know.. you push a little button and it opens and you put your CD in? You indicated that it did not.. Mine has both and I am surprised that YOU do not have both.. Are you sure? If yours says DVD.. then you cannot use it for a CD
