I am a theatre major, and I understand what you mean by keeping your mind off stuff.
I like to clear my head by knitting. I can only knit scarves but i have a whole collection and it's VERY calming.
I actually like to sit offstage during rehearsal and knit when I'm not needed. I know it sounds kind of lame and grandma-ish....but knitting is fun.
I like to get yarn that is furry looking so you can't see the flaws of my knitting!

I wrote my first novel when I was your age. Judging from the way that you write, you seem more intelligent than most people your age.
Why don't you work out a novel? It could wind up being something that you will enjoy and earn money from for the rest of your life. I'm in college now (graduated 2004), and I'm working on a series which I hope to have out soon.

If you like music, try playing an instrument along with songs you know- and then, write down the harmony parts! Change the words, and write them down, too. It doesn't take too much time to get started. Then, maybe you can begin to write your own songs. If you like crafts too, you could decorate the outside of a book, and then fill it with songs or poems.

I suggest model building. If you get good enuff you could even sell your models online or at craft sales. Be prepared though it is a pretty expensive hobby at first. After you have the supplies it is slightly less expensive.
