so, here's the problem, sometimes when I am coming to a stop and put on the brakes, the car will stop once, then kinda squeek and lurch forward and skid a foot or so before coming to the 'real' and final stop...this only happens sometimes but it's not good when I'm at a stop sign or pulling out to turn and it lurches forward like that...what's going on? thanks for your help!!~

well, i am not sure what the motor pulling would sound like, but I hear a humming sound for a second, kinda like a really loud tuning fork, but I'm not sure where it's coming from...i just assumed it was the brakes ...

I am not convinced it is your brakes. What your describing sounds more like your trans is not kicking out of gear when you are applying the brakes. Does the motor sound like it is pulling when that happens?
Warped rotors make your pedal move but applying pressure will over ride that.
Air in the line usually doesn't cause that sort of problem usually the pedal will go down all the way and on the second pump give you brakes.
You definitly need to get it looked at by someone with some expertise.

There could be air in the lines of your brakes. This could especially happen if you have anti-lock brakes on your car. My suggetion would be to get someone to inspect the brake pads, replace if necessary, turn the rotors or drums if needed, and most importantly bleed the brake system. Bleeding will get the air out of the lines. The reason it happens every once in a while is because it takes a while for the master cylinder to cycle through the brake fluid and then get air in the lines.

dadccrc makes a good point. An automatic trans shifts from high back down to low when you're almost at a stop. If your idle is set too high this can jerk the car forward as you describe.

Corey is also thinking clearly. If your brake rotors are warped, that could also account for forward movement after it seems like you've come to a stop.

I do favor the high engine idle and transmission downshift theory more, though.

unless you are slamming on your brakes.. its not your ABS

the problem is that your rotors are probably warped... you can tell this is the problem especially if when you hit the pedal, it kinda pushes back at your foot sometimes... if thats not it for some reason then its probably your pistons or something else.

could be worn disc brakes slipping. actually now that i read your description again im sure thats what it is... probably a worn spot on your disc brakes...

DONT DRIVE WITH IT! youll end up rear-ending some1.. if your LUCKY... and end up with bigtime insurance problems.. not worth it.. bring it to the mechanics
