They just want to be on tv and think this exposure could lead to something bigger. Like Trista, the first Bachlorette. She wanted a job on ET like Mary Hart. But she didn't get it. She became so annoying and now she's in Utah.

I think it's a mix of honest intentions and the usual misguided desire to be "on television."
Byron and Mary from BACHELOR season 6 are doing well, I think. Don't know many other examples.
