literally, Anthropology means the study of Man! By Man I mean humans and humanities in all of its forms including language, culture, physical studies, past history through archaeology, and fossil man as well as Primatology or the study of man's animal relatives, the primates. It is all encompassing as it includes such aspects of humanity as art and architecture, societal organization and even evolutionary changes. Women's studies as well as primate behavior and aggression are also subjects in anthropological studies. There is a smattering of history and statistics and also biological and genetic studies as well. It is the most complete set of studies in the liberal arts and is a good mix of hard and soft sciences and it has been the most useful degree in terms of discipline that I ever encountered and mixes well with Medicine which is what I do now
Good Luck in your pursuits.

Anthropology is the study of the human race -- there are several sections in Anthropology -- like the study of the way cooking has changed over the last million years or so. Or how transportation has changed the development of languages. Or how inventions have change how a society developed. I hope I was helpful -- Now if a five year old ask me what anthropology was I would say -- it is the study of how we are, and how we were and why we are and why we were and who we are and who we were and what are we doing and what we have done.

anthropology is the study of humans.
anthro is broken down into 4 categories: physical anthropology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, and linguistics. each focuses on a different aspect of humans.
Physical anthropology is also called biological anthropology. This mostly focuses on evolution and the biology of past and present organisms. The reason you may hear of anthropology as involving primates and other animals is because they try to understand how human evolved to have the skeletal and muscular function we do today.
Archaeology looks at the remains of the past to understand how people lived.
Cultural anthropology looks at the how groups of people are different. For instance, religion, family living (monogamy, polygamy, etc), diet, traditions and beliefs, and other aspects of culture.
Linguistics is the study of how language evolved. Why do languages differ from each other. What do different languages have in common. What consists of a language (animals may communicate with each other, is it language?).
As you can see, anthropology covers a lot of things. In college you will probably find you will like one of the four categories more than the others. I hope this helps. Good luck!

There are two sides to anthropology--physical anthropology and cultural anthropology. Physical anthropology is kinda like biology, very heavy on genetics and evolution. Cultural anthropology is the study of how people interact with each other, both within a society and what happens when two different societies interact. If you are the type of person who likes to figure things out..if you were the kid who asked "why" about everything...and if you find other people interesting, especially people very different from yourself, you'll probably like anthropology.

Anthropology studies the unique characteristics of societies: their cultures. This includes all aspects of their way of life -- marriage and family practices, what they eat and wear, what they value, what they believe, how they choose their leaders, etc.

If you're in college, then you may want to check your grammar and spelling before you turn in your homework to the professor. Oh, yes...anthropology is the study of humankind.

it is the study of humanities...like studying the reasons why people act like they do, and how they think, how people are different culturally....anthropologists try to find stuff that applies to everyone, everywhere....its like trying to figure people out by using science.
