Hows'it Porgie over there in Cape Town?
You are asking the same question I've been asking myself. There's too much police everywhere. I don't think it's about "Viva DA" because I saw this overwhelming number of them in Johannesburg and Durban. I didn't go to Cape Town, but if the same thing is happening in Cape Town then we can say "Viva South Africa". Yes their presence does make a difference but I still think they need intensive training, supervision and monitoring. They don't seem to be doing anything other than just driving around the cities.

I'm in Pretoria and Jo'burg daily and with the exception of an increased presence of traffic cops over the holiday period, I did not notice a much greater amount of police than usual.
If Cape Town has done that, then hats off to them! I hope that it will help to curb the crime problem. It's good to see that actual action is being taken rather than just the usual talking.
Moloi :
Relax buddy, it was completely unnecessary to attack Zukin personally. I say thank you to him for having the courage to be a police reservist and for you to say that you "suspect you are one of those not putting much effort as a reservist to combat crime in Joburg because is not a "Viva DA" municipality" is uncalled for.
You further mention "It's this type of propaganda and straight lies that create unnecessary tensions in this country"
What absolute rubbish! The only "unnecessary tensions" are caused by people such as yourself attempting to jump on the "everything is racist" bandwagon.
The DA are doing a good job in Cape Town, that is a fact. Of all the major cities it is most probably the best.

It's strange that when there were no police presence people were attacking national government. Now that it's done, it's "Viva DA". Since when South African Police became municipal competency. It's this type of propaganda and straight lies that create unnecessary tensions in this country.
Some posting here indicates that even in Joburg and Durban there's an increased police presence. Is that also because of "Viva DA" or because ordinary people, irrespective of their political affiliation asked national government to do so?
To: ZUKIN. I suspect you are one of those not putting much effort as a reservist to combat crime in Joburg because is not a "Viva DA" municipality. Still no municipality has authority over police. As an alleged reservist you should be knowing that!!!!!

Police presence was stepped up GREATLY in tourist areas over holiday season. Even here in Durban we had high visibility. The Giovt has indicated that they will recruit many more. (I do not have the figures).
Hopefully, this is a real start to reduce crime.

you noticed too. not purely this. they are making use of the protection rigidity right here on the weekends to patrol the streets. something that's amazingly unlawful. i believe you're precise on both money owed. something is up. If the incorrect human beings are voted in. Bush and Cheney stumble on a fashion to maintain skill. this can be the norm.

To Pleasant. I am a police reservist (cop that goes on duty voluntarily without getting paid) in Johannesburg. The crime here is out of control. BUT in Cape Town they have put more cops on the road and have given new rules;)

We live in the UK, so this is my personal opinion. I think that seeing the police makes residents feel more safe and isn't that a good thing? If we were never to see them we would be saying that we pay our taxes for nothing.

The crime will never go down here in South Africa. It just got worse over the years and that's why you see the police all over the place.
