The manual says its equipped for towing, however, it doesent have a trailer hitch on it.

You will need a tow hitch receiver installed on your SUV, around $250-600 depending on the type you get. Do not exceed the tow ratings in the owners manual, do not use cruise control, or overdrive while towing. You will also have to follow the maintenance procedures underlined in your owners manual under extreme operating conditions. Change the oil every 3,000 miles, transmission fluid every 55,000 miles and you shouldn't have any problems from your vehicle

bmw offers a factory hitch. it's pretty nice and hidden behind the bumper. stay away from some aftermarket products. they bolt them to the subframe and body. the subframe is mounted to the body with rubber bushings and will move and absorb bumps for a nice ride. when you bolt a piece of thick steel between the two you cause major problems.
