Mollies don't need live plants in the tank, however, they will do better if they get some vegetation in their diet. Thawed frozen peas lightly smashed on the tank sides are good, also blanched slices of zucchini,Some people use lettuce, also lightly blanched. If you use these suggestions be aware that the leftovers should not be left in the tank over night, just net or siphon out the uneaten stuff. Mollies also benefit from a little salt in the water, but it should be aquarium salt, not table or rock salt. Hope this is of some help. PeeTee

Fish love to eat plants and they need veggies in their diet, but to be honest, I got tired of the raggedy looking plants and having to constantly buy new ones to replace them. I resisted plastic plants, but ended up caving in and got some very nice, soft plastic plants and, instead, started feeding my fishies frozen peas and algae flakes. Also, a fun one is to get baby food (that's good because it's all natural with no salt), like peas, and mix it with plain gelatin and let it set up and you have a sort of veggie jello. Cut it up in tiny chunks and give a few to your fishies as a treat. They LOVE that stuff! mmmmm......

Nope, but they'll nibble green foods, or bits from an algae wafer, or even bits of algae on plastic plants.

nope. I had some from babies and they lived 4 years with no live plants.
